Position:  Accounting Expert (AI Training & Financial Analysis) – Remote

Role Overview

Mercor is partnering with leading AI labs to engage Accounting Experts in improving AI systems’ understanding of financial reporting, tax compliance, audit procedures, and enterprise accounting workflows.

In this role, you will apply your professional accounting expertise to evaluate AI-generated outputs, simulate real-world financial scenarios, and enhance model performance across complex accounting use cases. This is a project-based opportunity with potential for ongoing engagement based on performance and project needs.


Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate AI-generated outputs related to journal entries, financial statements, tax calculations, and audit procedures
  • Create realistic accounting scenarios such as month-end close, revenue recognition, tax provisions, and audit workflows
  • Annotate and validate data across accounting domains (e.g., ASC 842 lease accounting, consolidations, intercompany eliminations, SOX compliance)
  • Provide structured feedback on AI accuracy in US GAAP, IFRS, IRC, and PCAOB standards
  • Collaborate asynchronously with research teams to refine accounting evaluation frameworks

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of professional accounting experience in one of the following:
    • Public accounting (Big 4, national, regional, or local firms)
    • Corporate accounting or finance departments
    • Government or nonprofit accounting

  • Experience in at least one of the following areas:

    • External audit (financial statement, integrated, or compliance audits)
    • Tax (corporate, individual, partnership, state & local, international)
    • Financial reporting and controllership
    • Internal audit and SOX compliance
    • Forensic accounting, valuation, or advisory services
  • Strong analytical thinking and ability to translate workflows into structured tasks
  • Excellent written communication and attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA license or active progress toward certification
  • Experience with GAAP/IFRS reporting and regulatory compliance
  • Prior exposure to AI training, data annotation, or model evaluation workflows

Compensation & Engagement Model

  • Initial hourly rate: $60–$80/hour (based on experience and location)
  • Transition to performance-based compensation tied to quality and output throughput
  • Opportunity for long-term collaboration on advanced AI projects

Contract & Payment Terms

  • Independent contractor engagement
  • Fully remote with flexible working hours
  • Project duration may vary based on performance and business needs
  • Weekly payments via Stripe or Wise
  • No access to confidential third-party data required
  • Note: Visa sponsorship (H1-B, STEM OPT) is not available
